Marriage Counseling can feel very intimidating because it's stressful to bring all of your hidden issues up. Many people suffer with relationship problems for years before they finally seek help. Oftentimes, it takes more than one try at couples counseling to find the right person to help. Sometimes marriage counselors attempt to use methods designed for individual counseling and end up scapegoating one partner over the other. You should leave a counseling session, most of the time, feeling better than when you walked in. If you feel worse, time after time, then you may not be with the right counselor.

In our practice, we endeavor to treat each partner with respect and dignity. There is no point in making one person out to be the "bad guy". Even when one partner has indulged in an affair, or substance abuse, or other "negative" behaviors, there is no point in brow-beating them or making them responsible for everything that has gone wrong in a relationship. It takes two people to make a marriage and it takes two people to repair it.

In the Gottman Sound Relationship House theory, partners learn to communicate their needs in a sane and safe way. It takes a series of vital discussions between partners to explore inner hopes and dreams that can fuel disagreements and lead to gridlocked issues.

Products Carried: Gottman Relationship Checkup $100 per couple This online test is given to both partners to take separately. It is very thorough, and it usually takes one to two hours to complete. More than 40 pages of info about your relationship are then interpreted and sent to Kathleen for evaluation. A summary of results are discussed in person during with Kathleen. This test is unique in that it does have a predictive abilities.
