Starting in 1986, with offices in Chicago and Lake Geneva, WI, the firm focused on broadening the scope of services beyond traditional search; moving into areas of business and human capital management consulting. The Rankin Group further expanded its services within the wealth management niche and pioneered unique processes for helping their institutional clients, while assisting wealthy families, private investors, and business owners to start-up and staff single and multi-client family offices. Over the past 10 years, the firm has shifted its focus to working exclusively with family offices and business owners.

The Rankin Group’s approach has always been more comprehensive and customized to clients’ needs than that of other search firms. Their goal is to fill the void they saw within the search industry that failed to go beyond the traditional approach of thinking that all it takes is good candidates to conduct a search. The process for making a good fit between clients and candidates is more complex than that.
Their philosophy is based on the fundamental belief that successful executive search requires the hiring organization to accurately assess their needs and objectively evaluate talent against a well-defined strategy and criteria, as well as identifying the skills and behavioral attributes required in the person being hired to transition successfully into the job and meet performance expectations.
