Foot Conditions We Treat

Click a condition below to learn more about its symptoms and treatments.

Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles Tendonitis is an inflammation with pain on motion in the back of the heel where the Tendo Achilles inserts. The pain starts with the morning's first steps and then gets worse with increased activity.

Athletes Foot

Athlete' s Foot is a common infection of the foot. It causes red, cracked skin and water filled blisters on the soles of the feet or between the toes that may itch or burn.

Bunions

A Bunion is a common, inherited, progressive problem of the great toe joint where the first metatarsal bone spreads outward and the big toe moves inward causing the joint to become deformed, weak and enlarged.

Children's Feet

Since many foot disorders are inherited, bunions, hammertoes, flat feet and gait problems as well as knee, hip and low back pains can often be diagnosed, prevented or treated early on, especially if adults in the family have these problems.

Corns and Calluses

Corns and Callus are hard shields the foot develops to defend itself against pressure, irritation or friction. The pressure or friction that most commonly causes corns is produced simply by shoes or ground pressure against the balls of the feet.

Diabetes Feet

All diabetics are warned that their metabolic disease often affects the eyes, the kidneys and the feet with often tragic consequences. Poor circulation, numbness and burning, loss of balance and strength, foot ulcers, infections and all too often gangrene and amputation are commonly associated with Diabetes.

Flat Feet

Flat feet are often inherited and deserve early evaluation when others in the family have a history of foot and postural problems. Although flat feet are often the root of foot and postural weakness, not all flat feet need care.

Foot Surgery

All Podiatrists are licensed and capable of performing foot surgery. They have five or more years of focused education and are the only health care professionals with four years of lower extremity biomechanics training, making them highly trained to correct deformities, cure arthritic joints and heal broken bones, sprained ligaments and foot tumors when surgery becomes necessary.

Fungal Nails

Since fungal nails are usually more resistant and more difficult to treat than Athlete's foot, topical or oral antifungal medications may be prescribed. Permanent nail removal is another possible form of treatment for fungal nails.

Gout

Gout is a metabolic disease where a blood chemical called uric acid elevates and forms crystals that deposit painfully in a joint, most commonly the big toe joint. Gout comes on suddenly, often overnight and it is associated with extreme pain, redness, swelling and disability.

Hammertoe

A hammertoe is a dislocation of the joint of any one of the toes. It is described as a hammertoe because it bends under like a claw, or like the hammer in a piano. A corn or a callus usually will form either on the end of the toe or from shoe pressure on the prominent portion of the toe.
