El Paso, Texas is right on the border between the United States and Mexico. This city of nearly 700,000 is part of a metro area that includes the Mexican border city of Juarez. El Paso is the home of a number of cultural and educational attractions.

1. Franklin Mountains State Park

This state park is considered to be the largest urban park in the United States. It has a total area of over 24,000 acres right in the middle of the city. There are many good hiking trails in the park and several rock climbing opportunities.

2. El Paso Zoo

The El Paso Zoo is the home of a number of rare and interesting animal species. It is one of the few zoos in the world with an Amur leopard. The rare Prezwalski horse is also found here.

3. El Paso Museum of Art

This art museum currently has a permanent collection of approximately 5,000 art objects. There is an extensive collection of European art as well as a robust collection of art from the Southwest.

4. El Paso Museum of Archeology

The El Paso Museum of Archeology provides much information about the lives and culture of the Native American inhabitants that once occupied the El Paso area.

5. National Border Patrol Museum

Anything that a person would want to know about the U.S. Border Patrol's history can be learned at this interesting museum. One display is devoted to the work of dogs in the Border Patrol.

6. Fort Bliss Museum

Those interested in military items and military history will want to visit here. There are many displays of tanks and weapons.

7. Railroad and Transportation Museum

The highlight of this museum is the chance to see the EP & SW steam locomotive built in 1857.

8. El Paso Municipal Rose Garden

This is one of the most beautiful places in El Paso in the spring and early summer. The entire garden explodes in color.

9. El Paso Museum of History

This small museum is packed with much information about the city and the surrounding areas.

10. Aerial Tram

This tram allows for a stunning view of the entire city. There are good views from the tram into Mexico.
