No! I recommend staying away from those in many cases. Those filters generally have a high MERV rating and are hard on the system. If you're looking for more indoor air quality solutions, other products out there are better for the system than trying to treat the air with your air filter. An Air Scrubber is an example of an indoor air quality solution that can clean, purify, and deodorize the air for you and is installed on the positive (outgoing) air side of the system.

How often should you change your filter?

Every house is different. Getting in the habit of at least checking your filter every month and changing it if necessary. I recommend getting a nice pleated filter with a MERV rating of around 8. It's important to keep in mind that the higher the MERV rating, the more restrictive the filter is (especially if it starts to get dirty), and that can be hard on the system. This can cause premature failure and diminish system performance in the summer and winter. Checking and changing your filter when necessary can save you money, keep you comfortable, and save on service calls!
