Bakersfield, California was officially made a city in 1873 with less than 1,000 residents. Since then, the population has continually grown. Today, it boasts a population of over 350,000. Its growth in population is mirrored by its growth in attractions, ten of which are listed here.

1. Kern County Museum

A well-known history museum, this attraction's claim to fame is its "Pioneer Village", where children and adults can learn about life in the nineteenth century by exploring over 50 historic buildings.

2. California Living Museum

Also known as CALM, this zoo and living museum features plants and animals that are native to Kern County, the county that Bakersfield is located in.

3. Camelot Park

4. Centennial Plaza

Located near the Rabobank Arena Theatre and Convention Center, Centennial Plaza boasts an interactive fountain, a waterfall, and a small stage on a concrete, tile, and brick surface.

5. Kern River Parkway

Beginning near the California Living Museum, this is a park with over 23 miles of paths that can be used by pedestrians, cyclists, horseback riders, and other people who love the outdoors.

6. Centennial Garden & Convention Center

7. Buck Owens Crystal Palace

This attraction celebrates the life of Buck Owens, a country singer who helped create Bakersfield sound, a sub-genre of country music. It has a restaurant, museum, gift shop, and also offers live entertainment.

8. Kern River

Running through Bakersfield, this river is known for its rapids and canyons. Visitors can choose do many things, from whitewater rafting to simply enjoying the river's beauty.

9. Buena Vista Museum of Natural History

Featuring items such as fossils, gems, and artifacts, this museum is another attraction that focuses on the history of Kern County and the surrounding area.

10. Bakersfield Museum of Art
